Ceresians Christmas Band was formed 22 November 1955 in the Boland Town Ceres. Ceres is in the Witzenberg Area of the Western Cape. The founder members recognized the need that music played in the coloured community. The band orriganaly played only during Christmas season, but this was quickly expanded. Part of the heritage of Christmas Bands is to play at Church services, Funeral processions, Gospel shows, Street processions, Roadmarches(Bringing music to the community) and Community based fundraisers.The band is also crucial in uplifting the community on a cultural level. Although in the beginning there was only male members this quickly changed and membership is open to everyone. Uplifting and empowering of the youth is one of the primary goals of all Christmas Bands. Ceresians run in house music and youth programs continously to provide our junior and tiny-tot members with valueable life skills. More than 70% of the musicians in the band is juniors. Whe have 25 adult, 35 junior and 15 tiny-tot members. Ceresians is also a member of  Boland Christmas Bands Union and the South African Christmas Bands Board. We are also the founder member of Boland Christmas Band Union in 1966.We partake in 2 union competitions and 1 board competition annually where we compete against other Christmas bands. We get judged on Music, Best Dressed Team, Grandmarch, Drum-major,in 3 catogories(Senior, Junior and Tiny-tot) Christmas Bands is part of the heritage and culture of the Western Cape Community. Ceresians is the oldest band in the Witzenberg area and the pride of the Ceres community.
